I had so much fun creating these new ones: from picking a harmonious grouping of fabrics that came together to make a pleasing colour story (I used fabrics from my new collection, Nature Walk), to getting creative with practicing my penmanship to personalize each one with flair, to spending a few peaceful hours playing with some simple sewing, decorative stitches and some fun embroidery (you could substitute with free motion stitching), all on the Janome 15000 I have the pleasure of using.
I decided on a shape that I feel is Goldilocks’ “just right”… a bit longer and thinner than the traditional, about 17 x 6”… a size that holds just enough treasures without creating the need to buy more just to fill it. For fabrics, I opted for an average of six prints and a solid for the front of each, a coordinating print for the back and another print for the lining. There were a few fabrics (the more neutral ones) I opted to use in all 4 stockings to tie them together visually. Quilt batting gives shape, structure and strength to both the stocking body and the hanging tab and for a bit of holiday sparkle, I used metallic thread for all the decorative stitching.
